Lincomycin cream, gel, or lotion is a topical antibiotic containing lincomycin hydrochloride (typically 2%) used to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris by inhibiting Propionibacterium acnes, a key acne-causing bacterium. It works by blocking bacterial protein synthesis, reducing inflammation and lesion counts. Applied twice daily to clean, affected skin, it shows good to excellent response in about 70% of cases after 4 weeks. Side effects may include mild itching, dryness, or erythema. Avoid use in patients with lincomycin or clindamycin allergies, and consult a dermatologist for prolonged use or if irritation occurs.
