Clobetasol and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) spray, typically formulated as clobetasol propionate spray 0.05%, is a topical corticosteroid treatment for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis affecting up to 20% of body surface area in adults 18 and older. Clobetasol propionate (0.5 mg/g) is the active ingredient, with isopropyl alcohol as a key inactive ingredient in the vehicle base, alongside isopropyl myristate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and undecylenic acid. It reduces inflammation, itching, and redness by inhibiting inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins. Applied twice daily (max 26 sprays per application, 52 sprays daily, and 50 g weekly), it’s sprayed directly onto affected skin and rubbed in gently. Avoid face, underarms, groin, or areas with skin atrophy. Flammable due to alcohol content, so avoid fire or smoking during use. Side effects may include skin irritation, burning, or thinning; prolonged use risks HPA axis suppression or systemic effects like Cushing’s syndrome. Not for children under 18, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or ophthalmic/intravaginal use. Consult a healthcare provider for use beyond 2–4 weeks.
