Clindamycin and tretinoin cream or gel is a topical combination treatment for acne vulgaris, particularly effective for inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne. It contains clindamycin (1%), an antibiotic that reduces acne-causing bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, and tretinoin (0.025% or 0.05%), a retinoid that promotes skin cell turnover, unclogs pores, and reduces comedones (blackheads and whiteheads). Applied once daily at night to clean, dry skin, it helps decrease acne lesions and prevent new ones. Common side effects include dryness, redness, peeling, and mild irritation; it may increase sun sensitivity, so sunscreen is essential. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or broken skin.
