Clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide cream is a topical combination treatment for mild to moderate acne vulgaris, particularly inflammatory acne. It contains clindamycin (1%), an antibiotic that inhibits acne-causing bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) by suppressing bacterial protein synthesis, and benzoyl peroxide (2.5% or 5%), which kills bacteria through oxidative action, reduces oil production, and clears pores by promoting skin cell turnover. Applied once or twice daily to clean, dry skin, it reduces blackheads, whiteheads, and inflamed pimples. Common side effects include dryness, redness, peeling, and irritation; rare risks include severe allergic reactions or antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile). Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or broken skin, and use sunscreen due to increased sun sensitivity. Not recommended for children under 12 or those with a history of colitis.
